FabWrap-Mihi
Our activity
At Ayumi's occasional Furoshiki workshops and small stalls, we sell handmade Furoshiki and textile accessories to sustain our operations. Driven by our passion, we dedicate our spare time to sewing and experimenting with new designs, all in hopes of spreading joy and fostering connections with others.
To keep our operations running and to promote our activities while raising public awareness. Little by little, we have gradually received textile donations from our community. We are proud to have participated in initiatives such as the Koha Furoshiki wrapping service at the Tannery and the Otautahi Crafter Market in 2024, where we showcased the beauty of Furoshiki culture and upcycled textiles - the Hagire series.
We sincerely appreciate the ongoing support from everyone involved; without it, our mission would not be possible. Thank you for helping us bring joy and sustainability to our community through Furoshiki!
OUR CONCEPT
REDUCE
FabWrap’s are made from 100% upcycled materials. Most fabric types can be upcycled into Furoshiki, which reduces textile waste in landfills.
When people switch gifting methods using paper wrapping, tapes and ribbon to Furoshiki, it will reduce much of the paper wrapping waste from landfills.
REUSE
Furoshiki can be used for many purposes for people's needs and wants. This reusable Furoshiki is used in the long term to transform gifting, daily goods, outdoor equipment, or emergency items. It can be washed, ironed, patchwork, and can be used again and again!
RECYCLE
Furoshiki is a square sheet of fabric. There are plenty of ways to use it. It can be used for quilting, tablecloths, planters and more! Recycling upcycled Fabwraps is not hard because of the square of a sheet fabric, and it is easy to start creating things again from scratch with your desired shapes!
Be creative! We can make quality habits together.
FABWRAP 3R's

Education is a powerful tool for shaping the minds of our tamariki, and our mission is to inspire and empower young people through the culture of Furoshiki — a traditional Japanese practice rooted in the use of fabric. By teaching how a simple piece of cloth can be reused in many practical ways, we encourage young people to adapt their lifestyles towards more sustainable living while also connecting with the beauty and wisdom of Japanese culture.
Our approach goes beyond sharing the cultural significance of Furoshiki. We explore the Japanese values behind the practice, including mindfulness, respect for materials, resourcefulness, and caring for the environment. We also introduce the importance of upcycling fabrics, creating reusable fabric wraps, and discovering practical everyday applications of this eco-friendly tradition.
Through hands-on learning and creative thinking, we aim to nurture environmental awareness, cultural appreciation, innovative ideas, and a long-term commitment to sustainable living and community connection.

We need your Help!
We believe the new Furoshiki culture will help make our lives more happy and enjoyable as well as look after the environment.
Your textile donations will help FabWrap's operation by promoting, visiting and educating more people, schools and communities for use in workshops.
If you visit Fabwrap's stall in a local market, please bring your used fabrics, clothes or bedsheets and pass them on to us! Your pre-loved textile will be reborn as value-added Furoshiki (click here for more about this) and we will pass it on to someone else.
Please help us Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Your donation will make more FabWrap on the go!
If you are happy to donate us, please contact us to hello@fabwrap.co.nz
We are also looking for Furoshiki sewers! If you are happy to help us, please contact us at the above email address!
